Behind the Scenes

From the Moon to Our Walls

Updated on April 10, 2026

Our team has been glued to NASA’s Artemis II mission over the past ten days. Watching four astronauts journey around the Moon for the first time in over 50 years, and seeing the breathtaking imagery they’ve been sending back, stirred something in all of us.

So we did what we do best: We printed it.

Inspired by the Mission

When NASA began releasing photos from the Artemis II crew, our team couldn’t stop talking about them. Stunning views of Earth from deep space, the lunar far side in sharp detail, and an incredible Earthset captured just minutes before the spacecraft disappeared behind the Moon. There’s something about seeing our planet as a small, fragile crescent against the blackness of space that hits different when you’re holding it in your hands as a physical print.

We downloaded a collection of images directly from NASA's Artemis II Multimedia page — as works of the U.S. government, NASA photos are in the public domain and free to use — and got to work transforming the hallways and common areas of our production lab.

From Screen to Wall in No Time

Within hours of the first flyby photos dropping, we had prints going up on the walls. Three 30×40" Acrylic Prints anchor the display, and the acrylic’s depth and clarity make these deep-space images feel almost three-dimensional when printed at this large size. The quarter-inch acrylic brings out incredible contrast in the blacks of space, while the Earth and lunar surface practically glow with detail. Standing in front of a 30×40" Earthset on acrylic is about as close as you can get to looking out the window of the Orion spacecraft yourself.

Surrounding them, we printed a collection of Metal Prints on White Base with a High Gloss finish, Framed in our Modern Metal Black Frame. The High Gloss surface was the obvious choice for space photography because the luminous white base gives these images a vibrancy that makes the colors sing, from the deep blues of Earth’s oceans to the warm glow of sunlight reflecting off the lunar surface. And the black Metal Frames give the whole collection a clean, gallery-worthy look that ties everything together.

Walking through the lab now, you’re surrounded by imagery from a quarter of a million miles away featuring craters, mountain ridges on the far side of the Moon, our planet as a bright crescent setting over the lunar horizon, and the Orion spacecraft lit up by the Sun against the cosmos. It’s been a conversation starter for everyone on the team, from production to customer service. Our whole crew has been buzzing about the mission, and having the images printed and displayed on the walls around them has made the experience feel that much more real.

The whole project was a reminder of how quickly a space can be completely transformed with printed imagery. A handful of high-impact images, the right print mediums, and a few hours — that’s all it took to turn an ordinary hallway into something that stops people in their tracks.

Our Crew's Product Picks for Space Photography

Not sure which print style to choose? Here are our top picks for printing space photography:

🌙 Metal Prints: Our go-to for the deep space shots. The aluminum surface adds a luminous depth to the blacks and makes stars and highlights pop with incredible vibrancy. These feel tailor-made for astrophotography.

🌙 Acrylic Prints: The Earthset and eclipse images look unreal on acrylic. The material's translucent quality gives the photos an almost backlit effect that perfectly suits the subject matter.

🌙 Framed Prints: For the large-format panoramic lunar surface images, mounted Photographic Prints delivered clean detail and smooth tonal range across the widest views.

🌙 Standouts: Lightweight and easy to hang in clusters, Standouts are perfect for creating a collage-style grouping of mission moments and candid spacecraft interior shots.

Make Your Own Artemis Gallery Wall

Step 1: Select the images you would like to print. As a U.S. government agency, NASA’s mission imagery is in the public domain, which means it’s not copyrighted and free to download, print, and hang on your wall.

Note that a small number of images on NASA’s sites are copyrighted by third parties and will be marked as such, just look for a NASA credit line and you’re good to go.

Step 2: Once you’ve picked your favorites, upload them to a project in your WHCC account, and use them to design a Gallery Wall or order Photo Prints

Whether you’re decorating your studio, creating wall art for a client who loves space, or just want something extraordinary on your own walls at home, these images are truly once-in-a-generation.

Two images side-by-side: the first of a gallery wall template featuring seven framed prints of varying sizes, and the second the same layout filled with NASA Artemis II imagery professionally printed and installed on the wall

A Moment Worth Printing

As we publish this, the Artemis II crew is wrapping up their final day in space before splashdown this evening off the coast of San Diego. This extraordinary mission is the farthest humans have traveled from Earth, the first crewed lunar flyby in over half a century, and has produced some of the most awe-inspiring photography we've ever seen.

Our walls are proof that a great image deserves to be shared beyond the screen. It deserves to be printed, displayed, and experienced up close. Now it's your turn — we can't wait to see what you print next.
