Q. Do you have a yearly requirement that needs to be met in order to be a client?
A. No. We only have a $12 minimum requirement per order. If your order does not reach $12 then we will charge you a minimum order charge to make your order $12.

A.Drop shipping means having your order shipped to any address other than the address on file and costs an additional $5 with ROES Print Fulfillment, $7.50 for UPS Ground and $9.50 for UPS

Q. Do you ship internationally and if so what are the costs?
A. We do ship internationally using the US Post Office. We charge you exactly what USPS charges us for the package and this is determined by weight and sometimes size. All international shipments will be sent via Priority Mail International and takes an average of 6-10 business days but can be up to 14 days to arrive. You can also specify Express Mail International if necessary by contacting Customer Service with the order number; it costs slightly more, has tracking information available, and arrives in 3-5 business days generally but could be up to 7 business days. Also, any order that is shipped to an address other than the one we have on file for the account is called a drop-ship and costs an additional $7.50. The shipping rates are listed at http://www.usps.com/ and you can calculate what it will cost to ship a certain weight of package at http://ircalc.usps.gov/. The duties for a shipment are determined by the value of the package and USPS can also provide you with the necessary information for calculating these fees for your area.

Getting Started

Q. What do I do to get started?
A. Click on the "Become a Client" tab and fill out our New Client Questionnaire. You will then receive an email back that contains a link to submit up to five 8x10 files to us. We will print your files, set your account up, and ship the test prints back to you all at no charge. The test prints are a great way to test your monitor calibration as well as view our quality of printing.

Q. Am I required to submit test prints?
A. Yes. We want to be sure that the color you are seeing on your monitor is what you are getting back in your prints before you submit a real order to us. The test prints process is quick and easy. You should have an account number within 24-48 hours of submitting your test print files. Your test prints will also arrive to you within this time frame.

Q. I just couldn't seem to get the files to 8x10's without distorting the picture.
A. When your original file size is not the same aspect ratio as an 8x10 the image will distort when you use image size in Photoshop with your constrain proportions unchecked to size the file. You can crop you file one of two ways to get the file to an 8x10 size for test prints: 1-use the cropping tool in Photoshop to size the file to 8x10 at 300 ppi. However, you will lose some of your image. Or, you can go to image size check the constrain proportions box, size your file to the closest it can be to 8x10 but size under not over. Then take your 7.5x10 file (for example) go under image scroll down to canvas size and canvas the file up to 8x10. This way you will have a file size at 8x10 without cropping or losing any of the image. The canvassing method can also be use for printing a custom sized print with us.
If you are cropping your files in Lightroom this should be done from the Develop screen by setting your file dimensions and then dragging the crop tool over your image.

Q. I would like to automate the image resizing using Lightroom instead of PS. However, the jpeg quality option is not 1 to 12 but rather 1 to 100%. Should I set it at 83% quality (based on 10 of 12)?
A. With Lightroom 84% is an equivalent to a level 10 jpeg.

Q. I received my test files and they don't match my monitor. What do I do now?
A. If you are calibrated properly with a calibration device; once you have received your test prints and if they do not match your monitor in color and/or density. First make sure your files are embedded with your color space profile. If they are; then download and apply our soft-proof profile to see if the shifting color/density may be due to the paper and/or the printer the files were print on. If they still do not match after soft-proofing with our profiles then try to recalibration with your calibration device reconfirming the setting are at our recommended settings. If the prints are still not matching your monitor please call customer service for further assistance before placing any orders.

Color Calibration & File Management

Q. How do I calibrate to your printers?
A. You don't calibrate directly to our printers. You calibrate your monitor and generate a monitor profile which software like Photoshop uses to show you accurate color on your screen. We calibrate and balance our printers to create a printer profile. Using a standard working color space like Adobe RGB 1998 or sRGB and embedding this in your file allows the printer software at WHCC to use our printer profile to make sure what is printed is what you saw on your screen. We recommend all clients perform hardware monitor calibration. This is a relatively straightforward and simple procedure. We recommend the X-Rite i1 Display.

Q. Do you supply any profiles?
A. Yes. Once you have an account number, you can download ICC profiles for soft proofing purposes. The profiles are for all of our printers and we also have instructions on how to properly use them. Under no circumstances should you convert to our printing profile or embed it in your files.

Q. Is it okay to embed an ICC profile?
A. Embedding a valid ICC profile in your image is very important. Without embedding the profile our software has no idea what colorspace your file is in. This will result in uexpected color in the prints. All files not tagged with an embedded profile are assumed to be in sRGB.

Q. What colorspace do you accept?
A. We accept any colorspace as long as it is embedded in the file. Our software will read the colorspace embedded in the file and print appropriately for that colorspace. We recommend the use of a standard working space profile such as Adobe RGB 1998 or sRGB.

Q. What type of file do you require?
A. We require level 10 JPEG files to be sent to us.

Q. Why a JPEG file and at level 10? Don't you lose quality in the large prints?
A. JPEG compression is a very efficient image compression algorithm designed specifically for saving photographic images. It takes advantage of how we see color versus brightness to only save information needed to reproduce the image for people to view. Image data is lost during compression but at high levels of quality you will not see a difference between a level 10 JPEG and a Tiff printed to paper. JPEG compression is perfect for transient files for sending to the lab for printing but avoid using the compression as a working file type. Also avoid opening a JPEG, making changes, and resaving it again as a JPEG repeatedly. If your workflow calls for this to happen, save your files as Tiff or PSD files until they are complete and ready for output. At which time you should save them as level 10 JPEG. Any JPEG artifacts you see in your prints come from the JPEG file coming out of your camera, not from saving them as a level 10 for output purposes.

ROES

Q. How do I clear my cache?
A. A simple clearing of your Java and browser cache may resolve any ROES issues.

To clear your Java Cache:

PC Java Cache: Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Java>Cache tab or General Tab "Clear JAR Cache" or "Delete Files"

Mac Java Cache: Macintosh Hard Drive>Applications Folder>Utilities>Java>Java Plug-in Settings>Cache>Clear Cache

Once you'd cleared your cache, restart your computer.

Q. How do I update Java?
A. Windows: Visit the Sun Java Download Site http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Mac OSX: Run Apple Software Updates. This will automatically check for the most recent version of Java available for your version of OSX.

Q. I've tried everything you've suggested and ROES still won't Launch?
A. On rare occasions, PC users will continue to experience problems launching ROES even after emptying the cache. A complete uninstall and relaunch of Java is necessary to restore your Java settings.

FTP

Q. What is FTP?
A. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and has been around a long time. It's a widely used method of transferring files over the Internet. It has no limitations on file size like attaching files to email. Most importantly it allows us to setup every client with a secure and separate folder on our servers.

Q. What is a corrupt or bad file?
A. A "bad file" is generally created when your FTP upload is interrupted in the middle of a file transfer causing only part of the image to be retrieved. The transfer of the image does generally not create a "corrupt" file. You get this when you open the image in Photoshop and get "Invalid JPEG marker" or something similar. Generally opening the original TIFF or PSD file in Photoshop and resaving the JPEG fixes this problem.

Q. How do I upload my print size folders?
A. Uploading print size folders is as simple as dragging and dropping in your FTP client software. After your order preparation is complete, you simply sign on with WHCC, create a folder within your FTP account and drag the print size folders into that folder. Upon completion of file transfer, sign on to our order form page and submit the quick and easy order form.

Photographic Prints

Q.  What kind of printers do you use?
A.  Depending on the print sizes requested your order could be printed on one or two different pieces of equipment. All prints 12x18 and smaller are printed on one of our Noritsu printers. Prints larger than 12x18 will be printed one of our Durst Theta 76 printers. These prints are created with printers that expose light sensitive paper that is then run through a chemical process. These are real photographs, not inkjet prints.

Q.  What kind of paper do you use?
A.  Kodak Professional Supra Endura VC Digital Paper is used for Lustre paper. Supra Endura VC paper had an increased color gamut, excellent flesh reproduction, sharpness, and brilliant image quality. Glossy and metallic prints are printed on Kodak Professional Supra Endura paper.

Q.  Do you sharpen my files?
A.  No, we do not sharpen any files. You be the judge of when to sharpen files and are welcome to sharpen them yourself at anytime. This gives you total control to do what you want with your files.

Q.  Do you put borders on prints?
A.  No, all of our prints are borderless, except proofing where borders are optional. If you would like a border, please put the border on yourself. Borders are available for proofs when ordered through ROES.

Q.  What is the largest size you can print and mount?
A.  We can print 30" wide by 12 feet long. We commonly make prints to 96" and longer. We do not mount prints larger than 30x40. We only texture prints up to 24x30 and lustre coating no longer than 60".

Q.  If I have an odd sized print do I need to put it onto a standard size canvas?
A.  Yes, we have standard sizes setup in our printers which are limited by the equipment and the available sized paper rolls. We offer many sizes beyond the standard portrait sizes so you can find a size very close to what you need. To put an odd size print on a standard size canvas, go to "Canvas Size" in Photoshop. Type in the standard print size dimensions and anchor your odd size image to one corner. Set the color of the excess space to something that contrasts with the image such as neon green.

Q.  Will any of my image be lost in the printing process?
A.  We do enlarge your image by about 2% which is approximately 1/16 to 1/8 inch in on your image. We do this to account for paper tolerances so that you do not receive a print with a white edge. Because of this, we do ask that anything important in the image including borders, text, etc are moved in about a ¼ inch on the image.

Q.  What is the archival life of a photo print?
A.  Over 100 years in typical home display. Over 200 years in dark storage. 1-5 years for commercial display.

Buttons are 3 inches and magnets are two identical wallet size images on one 3.5x5 magnet.

Q.  What is included with color correction?
A.  We correct the entire file and balance for skin tones. We will stop if highlights begin to have a color cast or are blown out.

A spread will be exactly twice the width of the standard single page template. If you do not have the size correctly you will not get the results you are expecting. When using a spread to order, you will need to drag the image to the far right and click "Add to Order" then drag the image to the far left and click "Add to Order". This will then add to the order each side of the spread. If your spread is not sized correctly then you may lose image in the center of each side.

A.  If ordering a 1-1/2 inch gallery wrap, allow for 2 extra inches on all sides. This will add 4 extra inches to your final print dimension size. For example if you are ordering a 30x40 1-1/2 gallery wrap, the file dimension size would be 34x44. If ordering a 2-1/2 inch gallery wrap, allow for 3 extra inches on all sides.
